Internal Accounting, directed by Misty Key, is responsible for the overall budgeting and accounting for the County Office of Education's $95 million dollar operating budget. Most of the services are provided to the departments of the county office, but there are a variety of services provided to the twenty school districts located in Merced County. The staff in this department provide accounts payable, accounts receivable, and miscellaneous other accounting services to the 1,258 employees of Merced County Office of Education.
Internal Accounting consolidates and prepares the annual budget, first, and second interim reports. These reports are presented to the County Board of Education for approval, then submitted to the California Department of Education. There are many other State and Federal reporting requirements completed through this office, including the processes of closing the fiscal year.
Internal Accounting is responsible for the County School State Facilities Fund. This fund is used to build new county office schools, purchase relocatable classrooms, and school modernization. About $5-$8 million dollars flow through this fund annually.
