This course consists of scientific concepts, theories, and skill development for students interested in biology, anatomy, and health care careers. It is designed to follow biology or another life science related class. Students will focus on the physiological, biological and structural details of the human body, including a rigorous study of body systems. Students will apply scientific methodologies (inquiry, developing hypotheses, gathering factual information, evaluating data, and drawing conclusions) to the practices employed by medical professionals. Medical terminology will be integrated as students understand each of the body systems. Students will exceed core academic knowledge and demonstrate critical thinking skills as they apply knowledge to laboratory experimentation, real-life scenarios, medical case studies, and physiological response and treatment of infection.
Teacher InformationBiographyMrs. Marie Guintini, a native of Los Banos and she is a former 1969 graduate of Los Banos High. She attended Fresno City College and Modesto JC majoring in Medical Assisting. She has over 30 years experience working in the medical field first as a Medical Assistant and then returning back to school where she graduated from Merced College in 1992 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She is currently working per diem at Memorial Hospital in Los Banos in the OB Department on weekends, as well as teaching. From 1994 to 1999 she was the head nurse/supervisor of the medical staff at Golden Valley Health Centers in Dos Palos and Los Banos. She received her vocational teaching credential in Health from Sacramento State College in 2002.She is currently a member of CAROCP. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors by the pool, watching old and new movies, reading, knitting, shopping and spending time with family, friends and caring for her pets.
