Program Overview

Students with orthopedic impairments (OI) have a wide range of needs based on the nature of the impairment, the severity, prognosis, and accompanying sensory problems. The OH Teacher interfaces with the local school to facilitate the student's program through consultation and direct services.

Eligibility

The program for students with severe orthopedic impairments is a special education service. Determination of a student's eligibility for the program is made by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team after considering the student's unique needs.

Services

Services include

  • Consultation to school staff regarding education consderns.
  • Assistance with the coordination of additional services.
  • In-service training for school staff.
  • Direct services provided as specified on the student's IEP.
  • Other support for the student with education issues.

Referral

Students may be referred to the program by Student Study Teams, Classroom Teachers, Orthopedic Special Day Class personnel, School Nurse, Parents, or Other Interested Persons
