Foundations of Early Education
Foundations in Early Education is designed to develop the skills necessary to work in the early childhood education field. Training will include understanding the infant toddler learning foundations, developmental milestones for child growth and development, child health and safety care, child nutrition, guidance and discipline procedures, and intellectual and physical activities. This class is taught in a combination of classroom and a hands-on lab experience in which students will work in a supervised early childhood program with children ages six weeks to 36 months. Course content examines essential policies, principles, and practices that leads to quality care and developmentally appropriate curriculum for infant and toddlers. Students have the opportunity to earn up to nine units of Merced College credit in Child Development.

Andrea Cruthird-Mays
Andrea Cruthird-Mays is a champion and advocate for the health, wellbeing, education, and advancement of children, students, and families. She knows that it is important to value the uniqueness of each individual and see the potential lying within them. Her goal is to motivate students to seek higher knowledge. To encourage them to question, predict, and investigate new theories, thoughts, or ideas. When looking at the big picture the time she spends with each student is minuscule. It is important to remember that often the smallest shared moments, words of wisdom, and votes of confidence can turn out to have the greatest impact on the lives of the children, students, and families. She has over 27 years of experience in Early Education. She has served in the roles of teaching assistant, lead teacher, mentor, advisor, coach, trainers, quality initiative program manager and higher education professor. She holds a MA in Education: Child Development, a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Youth with Exceptionalities and an AA in Child Development. She has a Child Development Directors Permit, and a Career and Technical Education Teaching Credential.
