Foundations of Early Education
Foundations in Early Education is designed to develop the skills necessary to work in the early childhood education field. Training will include understanding the infant toddler learning foundations, developmental milestones for child growth and development, child health and safety care, child nutrition, guidance and discipline procedures, and intellectual and physical activities. This class is taught in a combination of classroom and a hands-on lab experience in which students will work in a supervised early childhood program with children ages six weeks to 36 months. Course content examines essential policies, principles, and practices that leads to quality care and developmentally appropriate curriculum for infant and toddlers. Students have the opportunity to earn up to nine units of Merced College credit in Child Development.

Shavon Roach
Hello, my name is Shavon Roach, and I am the Instructor for Foundations in Early Education. I am committed to working with each student individually to help them achieve their educational goals and set them on a path to a successful career in child development. I believe that children need respectful, responsive, relationship-based care and education, and I am here to prepare adult learners for a career that not only makes a difference in children’s lives but also lays the foundation for all future learning.
With 26 years of experience in education, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Teaching from Fresno Pacific University and a Child Development Associate Teaching Permit. More importantly, I bring real-life experience and a deep understanding that there are often barriers to completing educational goals. I know what it takes to overcome adversity and build resilience, and I’m passionate about helping others do the same.
With over 10 years of experience as a family-strengthening professional, I’ve had the privilege of leading parenting classes and social skills groups for toddlers. My passion extends beyond my work as I volunteer for youth events, to build a safe supportive community. I look forward to working with you to support your goals in early education. Together, we can make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of children and help you build a fulfilling career in this meaningful field.
