The System of Support for Expanded Learning
The regional system of support for California is called the System of Support for Expanded Learning (SSEL). The SSEL consists of California Department of Education (CDE) staff, designated County Leads/Staff and contracted Technical Assistance (TA) Providers. Additionally, as part of the regional teams, the sixteen-county office of educations (COEs) are funded to build the capacity of expanded learning programs (EXLPs) through peer network systems and other activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math to promote quality programming.

Expanded Learning S.T.E.A.M. Hub Initiative
The California System of Support for Expanded Learning S.T.E.A.M. Hub Initiative partners with 16 County Offices of Education across the state to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) opportunities in expanded learning programs.
Quality Standards for Expanded Learning
The Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California are a framework of expectations for high-quality after-school and summer programs, designed to guide program improvement and help families identify quality programs. The 12 standards cover programmatic elements, staff quality, and youth engagement, and are not intended to be a compliance checklist. They are used by providers, parents, and administrators to ensure programs are safe, engaging, and supportive of student development.
