Class Description
UC approved for “f” Fine Arts Credit

This course is specifically designed to introduce students to the career fields related to the fashion industry. Students will be provided the opportunity to explore various aspects of the fashion industry. Instructional emphasis will include:the design elements and principles, history of fashion, fashion forecasting, textiles and textile products, developing and merchandising a line, garment construction in manufacturing, product knowledge and apparel merchandising, sales and service, and visual merchandising. Students will be introduced to the latest technology in the fashion industry. A section of the course will include employment preparation and self-evaluation. Second year students may be placed at a community training site.​

Teacher Information


Mrs. Donna Acheson teaches ROP Foundations in Education and Creative Design and Merchandising I/II at Merced High School. She also teaches for Merced Community College. She was born in Ontario, Canada, raised in Glendale, California and attended the prestigiously private Woodbury University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Arts.

As a young designer, her fashion designs were highly sought after by stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s. On more then one occasion, she had one page features in the popular fashion magazines Vogue and Harpers Bazaar.

Donna continues to be an active member of California Teachers Association (CTA), and California Association of Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (CAROCP). She is also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International where she is president of Zeta Gamma Chapter Merced. In her free time, Donna enjoys quilting, gardening and spending time with her family.
