for STUDENTS

Merced CYAN

As an active part of Arts Now MCOE and the 2020 MCOE Strategic Arts Plan,  Arts @ MCOE and the Merced County Arts Council are partnering to support students individually with the Merced County-Wide Young Artists Network, or Merced CYAN.

Merced CYAN 2022 will be themed: Gateway to Merced, "Shelter and Place."

Nominations are now open for the Merced CYAN 2022 "Shelter and Place" Project, an MCOE + UC Merced collaboration funded by the California Humanities.

The "Shelter and Place" project involves learning the procedures and ethics of interviewing, choosing an interview subject from your community and performing an interview to determine their story of how they've dealt with isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Interviews will be archived with the virtual Gateway to Merced project, while the interviewers then work to turn their unearthed stories into visual and performing arts pieces for performance/exhibition.

The Merced CYAN 2022 "Shelter and Place" Project will last from January-December 2022, composed of 13 required in-person meeting and 5 required virtual meetings across the year.  Each participant will be paid a stipend for their participation in this project.

For Merced CYAN 2022, we are opening nominations to high school juniors/seniors, single-subject teachers in the Humanities, community advocates, community college and University students who are interested in participating. Students under 18 must be nominated by a teacher or administrator; adults may nominate themselves.

To nominate a student or yourself, please fill out the following nomination form. You will be contacted within 48 hours to schedule a Zoom interview during the month of February.
