Need Help Finding Child Care? Call 209-381-4585

Child care choice is one of most important decisions any family will make. It is most important that parents select child care that meets the special physical, social, emotional, cognitive, behavioral and creative needs of their children. Parents are encouraged to consider the following quality indicators which may be applied to a variety of settings including those for infants and toddlers, preschool, before/after school programs, center and home-based programs and exempt care.

  • The health and safety of children and adults are fundamental to a quality program. Licensing or Trustline requirements must be met.
  • The nutritional needs of children are met on a daily individual basis.
  • Interactions between children and adults provide opportunities for young children to develop an understanding of self and others. Interactions provide for the development of social skills, intellect, language and self concept.
  • The curriculum encourages children to be actively involved in learning to experience a variety of appropriate activities and materials, and to pursue individual interests and needs.
  • The indoor and outdoor physical environment supports healthy growth and development through opportunities for safe exploration and experiential learning.
  • The program, whether center or home-based, is efficiently and effectively administered with attention to the needs and goals of children, families, and staff.
  • The program is staffed, at an appropriate level to promote the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development of each child. The appropriate ratio of adults to children is maintained.
  • Providers, and other staff or family members are trained in child development.
  • Communication with parents is regular, ongoing and honest. Parents are encouraged to be observers and participants in the care of their children.
  • Regular evaluation of the program/setting occurs to ensure that quality care is provided.
