Merced County Schools
Merced County schools were incorporated nearly 170 years ago in 1856 when the first County Superintendent of Schools, William Nelson, petitioned the Board of Supervisors to divide the county into three school districts.
Today, there are 20 school districts with their own Boards of Trustees and Superintendents serving more than 58,000 TK-12th grade students with Steve M. Tietjen, Ed.D., as the 29th County Superintendent of Schools.
