Grasslands and Pioneer Elementary Named California Distinguished Schools

Grasslands Elementary School from the Los Banos Unified School District and Pioneer Elementary School from the Weaver Union School District were named 2025 California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education. They are among 336 schools statewide to receive the recognition this year and the only schools from Merced County.

The California Distinguished Schools Program honors schools who have shown significant strides towards closing the achievement gap and demonstrated exceptional student performance. Schools are evaluated on a variety of state indicators, including growth in academic performance, as reported through the 2024 California School Dashboard.

The California Distinguished Schools Award has celebrated schools, districts, teachers and classified employees since its inception in 1994. Schools selected for the Distinguished School Award will hold the title for two years.

The 2025 California Distinguished Schools will be recognized on May 30 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
