Merced County ROP CTE Technician Honored with Statewide Award

Merced County Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Educator Greg Friedman was named Counseling and Career Development Professional of the Year by the California Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).

The ACTE is the largest national education association dedicated to career education for youth and adults.

The award recognizes school counselors and career development professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to connecting students with opportunities for success, shown innovation in career exploration and development and have advocated for Career Technical Education as an option for all students.

Friedman, who is a Job Developer and Training Technician for Merced County ROP, trains adult learners in soft skills and partners with employers to assist with career opportunities for students. He began his career at MCOE in 2012 as a Vocational Trainer for the Special Education Department.

The award was presented at the 2024 Educating for Careers Conference in Sacramento on March 3.

Friedman will advance to the ACTE Region V recognition level for a chance to be recognized at the ACTE Visions National Conference in December later this year.
