MCOE Recognizes National Disability Employment Awareness Month
- Programs
October marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a month that recognizes the contributions made by individuals with disabilities to the workforce — an initiative that aligns with the goals of MCOE's Adult Transition Program.
"In MCOE's Adult Transition classes, we work every day to help prepare our students for employment opportunities during their school career and beyond," said MCOE Special Education Coordinator Caleb Hampton.
The program serves students ages 18-22 enrolled in Special Education and teaches them life skills through hands-on work experience. MCOE collaborates with local community partners, who offer students opportunities to build skills in hospitality, customer service and everyday life skills to help transition them into adulthood.
NDEAM, an initiative of the Office of Disability Employment Policy, raises awareness on the value individuals with disabilities add to the workforce and helps advocate for equitable access to job opportunities. This year's theme is "Good Jobs for All."
"We are so excited to share NDEAM's message of Good Jobs For All with our staff and students,” Hampton added.
