Local Leaders, Community Members Celebrate Parent Leadership Training Institute Graduates

The Merced County Office of Education Early Education Department honored the newest graduates of the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) and Children’s Leadership Training Institute (CLTI) in a ceremony held on April 30 at the MCOE Downtown Center.

The event, which hosted more than 130 guests, celebrated 22 parents and 10 children who participated in and completed 22 weeks of leadership development.

During the course of the program, participants learned how to become effective advocates for children and drive positive change in schools, neighborhoods and communities.

Special guests, including Merced Mayor Matt Serratto, Merced County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Tietjen, directors from MCOE Early Education Department, city officials and leaders from various community agencies, came together to honor the graduates' dedication and achievement.

About the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI)
The Parent Leadership Training Institute is a comprehensive, research-based family civics initiative designed to empower parents and caregivers to become effective advocates and leaders in their communities. PLTI provides participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to influence policies and systems that affect the well-being of children and families.
Rather than focusing on traditional parenting techniques, PLTI empowers parents to engage in civic life, build coalitions and drive positive change at the community level.

Children’s Leadership Training Institute (CLTI)
CLTI runs parallel to PLTI and offers a structured, educational experience for children. More than just a childcare component, CLTI is a learning opportunity that mirrors the leadership values taught to parents. It fosters intergenerational learning by creating shared experiences that spark conversations about leadership and civic responsibility at home.
