Merced County Writing Festival Website Showcases Nearly 900 Winning Entries

The 2026 Merced County Writing Festival website is now live and features nearly 900 winning entries from students throughout the county.

Now in its 42nd year, the competition received more than 2,600 digital submissions total from Merced County students in preschool through 12th grade. Families and community members can explore the winning entries at mcoe.org/writingfestival

Submissions were judged by educators from participating schools and consisted of short stories, essays, poems, songs and letters. Entries were submitted by individual students as well as entire classes.

Entries that earn first, second and third place will receive ribbons and the top two for each grade level will receive gold medals. Awards are delivered to school sites and districts for distribution during the end-of-year activities or presented at school board meetings.

The Merced County Writing Festival was created by local teachers to provide a platform for students of all grade levels to showcase their creative writing talent.
