Celebrating its 46th year in Merced County, the Academic Decathlon pits ​​area high schools against each other in a contest of academics. Students compete in the areas of art, economics, language and literature, mathematics, music, social science and science. Students also participate in communication events to showcase their Speech, Interview and Essay skills. 

 

The Academic Decathlon is open to students in grades 9-12.  A team consists of 9 members made up of 3 honor students, 3 scholastic students and 3 varsity students in accordance with the required grade point averages as indicated.  Alternates can compete individually in 8 events at an additional cost.​

 

The 2026-2027 Theme is "Journeys of Transformation: An Exploration of Travel and Transportation".

MCAD Intent Due: Oct 30, 2026

Fees and Team Paperwork Due for Essay and Scrimmage: Friday, November 13, 2026

 

Round 1 - Scrimmage (Optional)

MCAD Scrimmage - December 2-5, 2025

CAD Scrimmage - TBD (school pays CAD directly - $9 each)

 

Round 2 - County/Regional

Essay: December 2-5, 2026 (Online)

Final Team List and Paperwork Due: Tuesday, December 13, 2026

Objective Testing: Tuesday, January 19, 2027 (Online)

Speech/Interview/SQ/Awards: January 30, 2027 (In-Person)

 

Round 3 - State Competition (Winning Team)
