Merced County Academic Decathlon Scholarships

Resource

Our scholarship program is named for Robert Wayne, one of the founders of the Merced County Academic Decathlon and manager of the Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union for nearly 40 years. Mr. Wayne loved the MCAD and never missed a meeting during the years he served as the Board Treasurer. He made it possible to award scholarships to many of the hard-working students in the MCAD. Mr. Wayne convinced the MSEFCU to match each team's entry fee to help fund the scholarships. Mr. Wayne passed in 2009 but he left this legacy for the decathletes of Merced County and many years later it continues to shine. Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union is still very involved in this program donating $500 for each participating school. The top 3 scoring students from each division from each team are given scholarships. The highest scoring student receives a $500 scholarship and two students from the other divisions are each awarded $250 scholarships. Because of Mr. Wayne, the MSEFCU and the many other generous contributors we are able to award scholarships to the Merced County Decathletes and fund all of the event expenses for the year.

  1. Decathlete must be enrolled in an eligible school and request disbursement within twenty-seven (27) months of their graduation.  (Exception requests must be made before 27-month deadline.)

  2. Schools eligible for scholarship payouts include any adult vocational school, college or university licensed/accredited in the state which it operates.

  3. In the event an award is unclaimed for any reason, including death, the monies will revert to the Merced County Academic Decathlon General Fund.
